China’s heavy-haul railway has achieved a key breakthrough in the market application of high-power hydrogen energy locomotives

 

On March 28, China’s first high-power hydrogen energy-powered shunting locomotive, jointly developed by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. and China Energy Group, completed a 10,000-ton loading test for the first time at the Sidaoliu Station of the Xinshuo Railway Bazhun Line. It uses hydrogen as energy. Supply, towing 105 C80 vehicles for 2 kilometers at a constant speed. This marks a key breakthrough in the market-oriented application of high-power hydrogen energy power equipment for China’s heavy-haul railways.

The hydrogen energy-powered shunting locomotive is energy-saving, efficient, green and low-carbon. It is an innovative achievement of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Company to develop new productivity. The locomotive is powered by “hydrogen fuel cell + lithium power battery”, with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour, a maximum power of 2,400 kilowatts, a maximum starting traction of 560 kN, and a load capacity of 10,000 tons on straight roads and a load of 5,000 tons on a 4‰ slope. Ton.

The locomotive is equipped with a new high-power hybrid system composed of hydrogen fuel cells and power batteries. It adopts energy management and power control strategies to effectively ensure system stability and automatic energy adjustment during traction and braking, keeping the power battery power basically constant, and realizing Hydrogen powered.

The locomotive adopts a modular, standardized and universal design. It can realize multiple power supply modes and different energy output strategies according to different traction application requirements. It runs on “networked + non-networked” lines and has the ability to adapt to wide-area environments to meet the needs of the station. Operation requirements for shunting, small operations, loop line loading, power plant pick-up and delivery, etc.

With the successful test of the locomotive traction and loading task, the second phase of the test of China’s first high-power hydrogen energy-powered shunting locomotive has been completed. This is a solid step taken by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. in response to the national “double carbon” strategic goal. It is also an important milestone for China’s heavy-haul railways to accelerate the green transformation of production methods.
