“All Under Heaven”
Literature from China at this year’s Literature in Autumn Festival
From October 2–5, 2025, the event “All Under Heaven – Literature from China” at Alte Schmiede in Vienna invited audiences to experience the diversity and depth of contemporary Chinese writing through readings, discussions, and encounters with acclaimed authors.
The title All Under Heaven — translated from the Chinese concept Tianxia (天下) — reflects a centuries-old idea of harmony and interconnectedness. As expressed in Chinese philosophy and literature, Tianxia speaks of the human desire for understanding and inclusion.
